Typical mistakes made when bricklaying cellular concrete walls are made

You can buy the most expensive and the best building material, but it will still do nothing if you hit the incompetent bricklayer team. Unprofessional work is still a nightmare on the American construction sites and spends its sleep with the eyelids of many private investors. After all, it is difficult to keep looking at the team’s hands all the time, because it is still necessary to earn money on this construction. However, when visiting the investment area, pay attention to a few important details. We list the most common mistakes made by contractors during the stage of bricklaying cellular concrete walls.
Non-securing blocks
Cellular concrete blocks are very susceptible to water absorption. Therefore, they should never be unpacked from pallets unless they are to be used immediately for bricklaying. Teams often make this mistake because they want to make their work easier and simply move the blocks to different parts of the plot. Freezing itself does not threaten cellular concrete, but makes the walls after bricklaying can give off water for a very long time, which makes it impossible, for example, to make a thermal insulation layer.
Also, make sure that the team has protected the last bricked up layer of the blocks with foil. This is very important, especially in times of bad weather.
Poor first layer leveling
This error is of paramount importance for the subsequent stages of construction. If the team does not properly level the first layer of the blocks, it is 100% sure that the walls will be curved. This in turn is going to come to light at the stage of pouring the ceiling and is going to remind us about itself practically until the end of construction. The first layer is the most important one, and its leveling should be done by an experienced bricklayer.
Ask your site manager to be present when leveling the first layer of blocks.
Mortar incorrectly prepared
This error is most often due to simple laziness or routine. Masons often prepare their mortars “to the eye”, they do not want to read the manufacturer’s instructions, they apply the same measures to all mortars, not paying attention to the fact that individual manufacturers may apply completely different technologies.
Poorly prepared mortar is a disaster for the investor. Not only will the team consume much more material, but it will also brick up walls of insufficient structural strength. In addition, the mortar is applied with a trowel, which makes it practically impossible to prepare sufficiently thin joints and results in the formation of thermal bridges.
No reinforcement under the window openings
In the case of cellular concrete masonry, it is necessary to place the reinforcement under the windows, as this is the only way to prevent cracks of 45° going down the building from occurring later. Cellular concrete is not as strong as cellular concrete, so it is necessary to use reinforcement at sensitive points, such as window openings.
If you do not have enough building knowledge or simply do not have the time to look after the bricklaying team, have an experienced site manager take care of your investment. His role is not only to complete the construction log.
