Educational toys – definition and differences

Every child plays with different kinds of toys. However, not all of them are able to get the name of educational toys. For a toy to be an educational toy, it must affect the developmental aspects of the child such as mental, physical, emotional, social, cognitive aspects. All makers of educational toys focus on these areas. The greater the stimulation of aspects simultaneously, the greater the benefit to the child. They allow children to combine having fun along with learning new skills that will be useful in their future functioning.

Educational toys are specially created to arouse interest of children. This is the only way a child will be interested in them and will have a blissful time playing. A variety of colors, sounds and nice materials are very attracting.

Types of educational toys

Depending on the age of the child, different types of educational toys are distinguished to match their level of knowledge. It’s obvious that toys for toddlers will differ from those for older kids.

For the youngest kids, it is recommended to choose safe educational mats, which protect the child from the hard floor with their structure. They are very good for the youngest who can’t even walk yet – on each side there is something interesting and worthy of attention.

Older children can choose toys that improve their hand-eye coordination and concentration. These include, for example, LEGOs, educational puzzles and learning tables. The older the child, the more complex (but not too complex!) the toy should be. Only then the child will be able to make constant progress and learn more about the world.

What should I look for?

In addition to taking into account the age of the child and the level of difficulty of the toy, it’s also worth looking at the safety certificates of toys that can be found on the packaging. Play should teach, but also be safe, so using anti-allergenic materials won’t hurt either, and can only protect your child.
